At HWMDC, our Histopathology Department is led by a team of highly qualified and experienced consultant histopathologists. The lab is staffed with skilled medical technologists who work closely under the supervision of our pathologists and lab managers to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality histopathology reports.

Our Facilities and Services

• Surgical Pathology
  We receive a wide variety of surgical specimens from across Pakistan, including mucosal endoscopic biopsies, CT and ultrasound-guided liver, renal, and splenic biopsies, as well as skin biopsies, endometrial curettings, and excisional tumor biopsies. Additionally, we handle large surgical specimens such as hysterectomies, mastectomies, colectomies, prostatectomies, and amputation specimens. All samples are processed in a fully equipped histopathology lab with the latest automated tissue processors, strainers, and microtomes. Our experienced histopathologists ensure prompt and accurate reporting, with intra-departmental consultations routinely held for malignant tumors and other critical cases to ensure the highest standards of reporting.

• Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC)
  FNAC is a minimally invasive, highly sensitive diagnostic procedure with 95-98% accuracy in diagnosing both malignant and benign tumors, as well as infectious and inflammatory conditions. Common areas for FNAC include enlarged lymph nodes, breast lumps, thyroid swellings, and other soft tissue masses. The procedure is performed by skilled cytopathologists, with the option of having female consultants for female patients. FNAC is carried out in a well-equipped, aseptic procedure room, with immediate checks to ensure sample adequacy to avoid unnecessary repeat visits. Final results are provided within 48-72 hours, following standardized reporting protocols. We also offer ultrasound-guided FNAC for more precise sampling.

• Cytopathology
  Our cytopathology services cover a broad spectrum of tests, including gynecological and non-gynecological cytology such as cervical smears, vault smears, pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, sputum, urine cytology, CSF cytology, and synovial fluid cytology. When necessary, specialized stains are used to confirm diagnoses.

• Special Tests
  We offer specialized testing for fungal infections and tuberculosis, as well as arrangements for immunohistochemistry and molecular testing for tumors and lymphoproliferative conditions. These tests help in accurate categorization and phenotyping, assisting in targeted treatment planning.

• Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
  Immunohistochemistry is a critical part of our histopathology services. It involves identifying specific antigens in tissue sections through antibodies that bind specifically to these antigens. At HWMDC, we offer more than 60 IHC antibodies, all processed on an advanced automatic analyzer, ensuring precision and reliable results for complex diagnoses.
