Ultrasound
Ultrasound Services at Healthways Medical Diagnostic Center (HWMDC)
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not involve ionizing radiation, making it a safer option for imaging. The sound waves are directed at tissues or organs, and the echoes are recorded to generate real-time visual images. Ultrasound is particularly useful for assessing soft tissues and organs.
Obstetric Ultrasound
One of the most common uses of ultrasound is in obstetrics—for monitoring the health and development of a pregnant woman and her fetus. Obstetric ultrasound allows healthcare providers to visualize the baby’s growth, check for any potential complications, and assess the overall condition of both the mother and the unborn child.
